Mélanie Simard

Biography

MÉLAN’s work moves between two distinct yet complementary expressive worlds — one rooted in symbolic tenderness, the other in raw instinct — together forming a body of work that is as emotionally rich as it is visually alive.

Mélan revisits the still life tradition by creating vases and flowers whose curved, intertwined, or straight shapes evoke a symbolic, lively, and comforting language. Her use of epoxy resin adds depth and a tactile dimension to her floral works, making each piece as captivating up close as it is from afar. Each flower humorously symbolizes situations of everyday life, addressing joy, friendship, and love, but also sometimes sadness, resilience, or jealousy — inviting the viewer to decode a message they can relate to.

In another dimension of her practice, Mélan explores painting as an instinctive language, raw and free from any constraint. Through spontaneous gestures and vivid colors, she gives way to pure intuition — the need to express what cannot be said otherwise. Each piece is an act of freedom, a gentle rebellion against rigid frameworks.

Whether composing playful floral narratives or surrendering to pure abstraction, her unique style remains instantly recognizable — always vibrant, always emotionally alive.
